Psalm 47
John 17:20-26

When I volunteered to do the sermon today, I thought nothing of it, but when I see all these people in front of me, begging in their minds for me not to bore them, I wonder what in His name was I thinking?

But anyway, that was my joke, now it’s God’s turn to be discussed. In the Gospel today, I deciphered one lesson: that during bad times, and even good times, you must always have faith in God. Basically, Jesus said to his followers, “Follow me, and do what I say, for if you do this, you will be eternally rewarded. Now, what’s the difference between God and, say, my Geometry teacher? The difference is that I see her in her true form, as a person who likes insulting other people. But I only see Jesus in others, not in his true, perfect form. I cannot judge him as a person when he comes in so many forms. Having faith in Jesus is very rewarding, and here’s my logic on that: you have nothing to lose, and eternal benefits to gain.

You also must have faith in yourself. You’ve got to believe that you’ll be able to pull through each day, with God’s help. I went camping just last weekend, and I was in charge of organizing what was going on through the entire campout. I had to prepare beforehand also, which meant a lot of work on my own time that seemed completely overwhelming at times. But I kept faith; both in myself, and in God, that he would help me also. When last weekend rolled around, I was on my toes the whole time. One person even came that I didn’t know was coming, so I had to straighten that out as well. All in all, I got through it, though it seemed like living in a nightmare at times. But that faith, when it seemed that I was about to go crazy, I just gritted my teeth and thought that with God’s help, I’d be fine. And it was. I got through last weekend, with no visible bruises.

Faith, without it, we’d have nothing in bad times. When a loved one dies, your faith may be challenged. But you must remain optimistic in those bad times. When my Grandpa died, that was one of those times. I knew in my heart that God wouldn’t have taken him if he hadn’t had a plan for him. My Grandpa had heart problems and he was in a lot of pain, so my thoughts were that God took him up to heaven because he no longer wanted him to be in pain

Sometimes, when you have faith in someone, you come up empty-handed. You feel as if you’ve been cheated, and lied to. These times are when you must turn to God, because nothing will make God cheat you. He is too forgiving and merciful
The reason why faith is so important and so powerful, is that no one, and nothing can take it away from you. When you’ve been taken of everything but your life, you will always have faith. That’s why it is so important to have, and anyone who doesn’t have faith is greatly misfortuned. AMEN.
