I hope everyone had a joyous Thanksgiving celebration, snow and all. Now we set our sights on Advent and the many activities we have coming up at the Cathedral as we prepare, once again, to welcome the Christ Child this Christmas. First up is the Nativity Puppets in the Nave tonight at 7 p.m., tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available here. Come see the story of the Nativity brought to life in this long-standing tradition at the Cathedral with puppets created specifically for our space.
Next weekend will be the Women of Grace Lunch & Outreach project on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. Contact Terri Curran for details. Later that day, at 4 p.m., will be our Messiah Singalong. Sunday morning during Formation time, the Diocesan Peace and Justice Committee will be presenting Be Smart, an educational gun safety program. Come hear Lenette Johnson and Tara Bennett as they give this very important presentation. Sunday will finish with our annual service of Advent Lessons and Carols at 5 p.m. There is still more to come, and I will highlight more activities next week.
I would like to give a special welcome to Fr. James and his wife Kelsey. Fr. James started in the office this week and will be our preacher this Sunday. Remember, we will have both an Advent workshop and a reception for James and Kelsey following the 10:30 a.m. service. I am grateful for the opportunity for James to share in ministry with Deacon Barbara and me. Welcome!
I’d like to share one more bit of good news. From time to time the Cathedral receives gifts and bequests from members. We recently received a gift from the estate of Mary Byrne for $10,000. This gift was specifically given for the Altar Guild of the Cathedral. We are grateful for Mary’s years of service at Grace and Holy Trinity.
Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, for the nation, and the world.
