Do you feel like, at any moment, the sound of bagpipes will magically be heard? Maybe some drums, too? Well, at this time of year that wouldn’t surprise me and, if you show up at 8 or 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, that feeling will become a reality. It’s time again for Kirkin’ o’ the Tartan where we celebrate our connection to the Scottish Episcopal Church as they consecrated Samuel Seabury as the first Bishop in the Episcopal Church USA in 1784. Seabury’s feast day is November 14, so we try to have our Kirkin’ celebration on the Sunday closest to that day. We will have one piper at the 8 a.m. service and the full complement of pipes and drums at the 10:30 a.m. service. The blessing of the tartans will take place at both services.
We have a full day on Sunday. Following the 10:30 a.m. service will be a shortbread reception in Founders’ Hall and the Stewardship Lunch. At 2 p.m. we will have the funeral service for Sara Gaggens, followed by the Committal in the Memorial Garden and a reception. Lastly, we will have our regular 5 p.m. service.
Another significant event will also be happening this weekend, the 134th Convention of the Diocese of West Missouri. Clergy and Lay delegates from around the Diocese will gather at the Cathedral on Friday evening for a Eucharist and reception, and on Saturday for our business session. Please keep our Diocese in your prayers as we gather in Convention.
Since we will have our Stewardship Lunch on Sunday, here’s an update on where we are in our 2024 Stewardship Campaign: Expect the Unexpected:
To date, we have received 36 Pledges totaling $128,447 toward our goal of $500,000.
Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, in thanksgiving for all Veterans, for our nation, and the world.
