Many thanks to all who came last night to meet and listen to our four nominees for IX Bishop of West Missouri. It was a great turnout, and I appreciate everyone’s interest in getting to know the nominees better. The Q&A session was livestreamed in the Nave and is available on our YouTube channel for anyone to view. Please check it out if you were unable to be with us last night. There is one more session tonight at Church of the Redeemer in Parkville.

While I’m saying thank you, I’d like to also thank everyone who came to our Cathedral Cup Croquet Tournament, Croquet By the Bay, last Saturday. We had a wonderful time throughout the afternoon as 16 teams came together to compete for the Cup. Here are this year’s winners: Consolation Winner—S’Moores: Kristy and Steve Moore; Champion Runner-up—Windsor Wickets: Valerie and Jeff Johnson; Champion Winner—It’s Mallet Time Somewhere: Kristen and Mathias Nichols. Congratulations to all winners and everyone who competed, it was a lot of fun. Special thanks to our organizers Angela and Ron Michka, to all who helped bring and serve food, especially Vangie and John Rich and their granddaughter Catherine, Claudia Risebig, Peg Brown, Angela, Valerie, Joan Bergstrom, and to our event coordinator, Holly Campbell.

I’m looking forward to For Pete’s Sake, our Pete’s Garden fundraiser this evening. It was a great success last year and I know it will be great again this year. Looking ahead, we have our Blessing of the Animals at 11 a.m. on October 5, our Hymn sing at 3:30 p.m. on October 6, our Healing services on October 20, and our Fall Festival on October 27.

Tomorrow is the Feast of Saint Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist. He is also known as Levi, a tax collector (publican), and as the writer of the Gospel that bears his name. Early Christian writers attribute Matthew with having converted many to Christianity in Judea.

We thank you, heavenly Father, for the witness of your apostle and evangelist Matthew to the Gospel of your Son our Savior; and we pray that, after his example, we may with ready wills and hearts obey the calling of our Lord to follow him; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (BCP p. 244)

Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, for our nation, and the world.
