Happy New Year and happy start to the Epiphany season! I hope everyone had a blessed and merry Christmas and a happy start to 2024. January is a busy month at the Cathedral as we have lots going on to start this new year. Tonight, January 5, will be our first Parish event with our Twelfth Night Chili and Soup Potluck and Game Night at 6 p.m. in Founders’ Hall. Come join with your Cathedral family to share chili or soup and play games. It is an evening for all ages.
On Sunday, January 7, we will celebrate the Baptism of Jesus with two baptisms of our own at the 10:30 service. We will also bless and distribute Epiphany chalk at all three services for marking the entrances to your homes. Remember, the season of Epiphany is an appropriate time for blessing your homes, as well. If this is something that might interest you, please contact the office to let me know.
Next Saturday, January 13, we will be hosting a special service of Celebration and Holy Eucharist remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Bishop Diane will join with me and other members of the diocese as we welcome Representative Emanuel Cleaver II as our preacher. The service itself begins at 4 p.m., but a special video prelude will begin at 3:15 p.m. There will be a reception following the service in Founders’ Hall. You may register for the reception here.
Rounding out January, we will host Diocesan Ordinations to the diaconate on January 20 and our Annual Meeting will take place following the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, January 28. This year we will present our new Strategic Plan to carry us through 2026. There will only be a 10:30 service that day so all three congregations can come together for the meeting and to elect new members to the Vestry.
I am looking forward to a wonderful new year at the Cathedral. Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, our nation, and the world.
