This past Wednesday we were invited to begin our observance of a holy Lent. Some of the ways we are invited to do this is through self-examination, repentance, prayer, fasting, self-denial, and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word. How you do these things is up to you and is most likely different for each one of us. Two opportunities we are offering include Fr. James’ Sunday morning formation class on The Path, and my Wednesday evening class on Praying the Lenten Gospels.
Lent is also a time when you will notice a few changes to our Sunday services. This Sunday we begin with the Great Litany, and all following Sundays we will start the service with a confession at the beginning. We will not be singing the Eucharist during Lent at either the 10:30 a.m. or 5 p.m. service. We will, however, still sing service music. These changes are just for the season and help to get us into a different routine and focus during Lent. Our Eucharistic Prayer during Lent will be Prayer A.
In other news, our Vestry will meet in retreat tomorrow where we will look at strengthening our bond as a parish family. We have lots to discuss following both the Congregational Development and Vitality workshop and the Episcopal Parish Network Conference. It is exciting work, and we look forward to all that is to come at the Cathedral.
Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, for our nation, and the world.
