What a wonderful Diocesan Convention it was this past weekend. Friday saw the business of the Diocese conducted as we elected new members of the Standing Committee and Diocesan Council, passed the 2025 budget as well as other resolutions, and had a reception to end the evening. On Saturday, following the Eucharist, we elected the IXth Bishop of the Diocese of West Missouri. Elected on the first ballot was the Very Rev. Amy Dafler Meaux, Dean of Trinity Cathedral in Little Rock, AR, and now our bishop-elect! Many thanks to the Cathedral staff and Diocesan staff for their work in hosting the convention this year. I especially want to thank Joan Bergstrom and the Altar Guild, Julie Toma, Holly Campbell, Chris and Christine Morrison, and Angie Graham and the property staff for all their hard work. Thanks, as well, to Clare for her work with the Youth lock-in, hope you get some sleep! Diocesan Convention will once again be hosted by the Cathedral next November.
Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans is now upon us as we will have members of the St. Andrew’s Pipes and Drums at both morning services. Bishop Diane will be with us as well. Choral Evensong will be at 5 p.m. This will be Dr. Paul Meier’s final day with us and Evensong will be his last service. There will be a reception in the Common Room for Paul following Evensong, all are invited.
Looking ahead, our Pledge Ingathering will be next Sunday, November 24, Christ the King Sunday, followed by our Thanksgiving service on November 28, our Advent decorating day on November 30, and the start of Advent on December 1. We have a lot to look forward to and a lot for which to be thankful.
Last Sunday I mentioned giving thanks for all of our Veterans. Here’s a prayer to go along with it, adapted from the BCP:
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the people of our armed forces at home and abroad, those under active duty and those who have completed their service. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Please continue to pray for one another, for our Cathedral family, for our nation, and the world.
